International Parrotlet Society
Board of Members & Directors
Leslie Huegerich, President 919/552-6312 klaviary@showtiels.com
Welcome to all new members and
old members alike! I am so excited
about being your President this year. I
hope we will have a fun and educationally filled year.
I would like to tell you a little bit about myself so when I meet you
guys along the road, we can get more acquainted!
I am originally from Huntington, Long Island but have spent most of my
life in North Carolina. I am an accountant by trade and am currently working to
get my CPA. As those who know me
know, I am a “schoolaholic”. I
currently have a two year degree, a four year degree, and working another degree
and multiple minors. My hobby
definitely is birds and higher education.
I bring my love for learning into the avicultural realm also.
I have owned birds for
around ten years now and have been breeding for a little over five years.
In 2000, I went to a cockatiel exhibition and roomed with a friend, Julia
Allen. She had the sweetest green
birds in show boxes. I thought they
were absolutely stunning in color and very animated in personality.
I immediately started looking for education on these birds: green rumped
parrotlets. I purchased an initial
two pairs and have never looked back. Although
I concentrate on Green Rumps, I do also breed Spectacles and Pacifics. I
currently have around twenty-two parrotlets.
We already have lots of
committees started and ready to work this year. I do not plan to be a dictator, rather a facilitator.
I know this club is made up of intelligent and creative folks who can do
the job better than I when they work together.
This is your organization! If
you want to donate your time, just email me.
I will give you some options and put you to work.
The work can be hard and require some time and energy, but your rewards
will be given back threefold. I
have experienced that on my past Board work with IPS and I think the formation
of so many committees can lift the work of the Board and put it back to the
membership. Again, I look forward
to being your President and my door is always open!

Julia Allen, Membership Representative 352/360-1035 NCSJulie@aol.com
I am Julia Allen of Fruitland Park, Florida.
Myself and my husband have been busy in birds for 23 years; 12 years with
Green Rump parrotlets! I obtained
the little jewels after being on a waiting list for several years. These little
birds are still as fascinating today as then.
I have been breeding them, when they feel up to it, for exhibition and
breeding, occasionally selling one or two as a pet. I have been a member of
International Parrotlet Society for approximately six years and have met other
enthusiastic owners and exhibitors during that time.
I travel to exhibition shows
several times during the year and show deliciosus Green Rumps, often
times getting one on the Top Bench. I enjoy meeting more new faces in the
upcoming months and offer my assistance to anyone wishing help.
I feel here in IPS, we want to better the knowledge and quality of life
for parrotlets. I look forward to being a member of the IPS group of Directors.
